How do we transform grey schoolyards into thriving green spaces that support children's health, biodiversity, and play? On Wednesday 25 March, Kristian Åbacka will share his Finnish perspective on this question. Register now for this Rewild Talk.
Drawing on his work at the Finnish Supervisory Agency and his involvement in dozens of school and kindergarten greening projects, Kristian Åbacka will share his view on greening school grounds. Topics range from funding structures and stakeholder engagement to the arguments that get decision-makers on board. He'll also highlight distinctive Finnish practices, such as school grounds that are routinely open to the public, and share honest reflections on the challenges and barriers he still encounters in his work.
The session continues with a reflection from Ghent by Raf Van Holderbeke (City of Ghent), on the current practices and potential innovations as part of the Rewild the City project. This is followed by a joint Q&A.
A valuable session for anyone working on school ground greening in Belgium and beyond.
