Making school grounds more natural matters: for health, for responding to the climate crises, and above all, for the simple pleasure of play. Kristian Åbacka was involved in dozens of school and kindergarten greening projects in Finland. He shares his view on this topic.

In this Rewild Talk, Kristian Åbacka (Finnish Supervisory Agency) explains what children want from their school ground, how their parents and teachers tend to see it differently, and why that gap deserves our attention. He also shows how international cooperation can be a vehicle not just for sharing ideas and expertise, but for securing real funding. During the Talk Kristian shares honest reflections on the challenges and barriers he still encounters in his work.

The session continues with a reflection from Ghent by Raf Van Holderbeke. He shows inspiring examples from his work as a landscape architect with the City of Ghent, exploring the use of natural materials and making the case for nature education.
