In order to limit the effects of extreme weather, such as heavy rain and heat waves, the city government as well as citizens and enterprises need to limit soil sealing and add greenery. Local stakeholders are engaged in desealing both public and privately owned land.

Rewild the City explores strategies to realize no net land take, based on scientific facts and figures. Research includes topics such as identifying drivers and barriers for rewilding, prioritizing locations and dealing with financial constraints.

Solutions are tested in three neighbourhoods in Ghent. With the introduction of at least nine rewilded public spaces and several greener private properties, they will gain in terms of climate resilience, biodiversity, health and well-being.
